ALONE/ POEM BY Adepoju Timileyin Opeyemi
ALONE
Ibadan.January 16, 2024.
i
My father is the explosion
the flame sings gory
& I —the smoke, raid the misfortunes.
Grieving taught me its language.
My mother too, cried
& my body became a slate
inked in wreckage.
ii
Once father' memories
clogs identity & sieve
into my body, I became an ambient
I sing silence
to corners.
Like a widow
with garments of loss
I dance to elegies
To whispers,
to echoes in hollows.
iii
I'm a figment
burnt to its course
Like a pathway in flowering elegy,
this land knows only dearth —void of greens.
