Hall of Honour // Eden Hitchcock

Hall of Honour | Eden Hitchcock

The crowd flows, current-like,
into the hall.
The words on the walls—
the  “In memory”s—
reprint as unspoken tears
on their faces.
The gentle pulse of their
murmurs
and deep blue silences make me

remember the sea, and the way it
pulled in
and dragged out;
the way a small white bird drifted on it
until it was gone.

Years ago,
women watched their children
be stolen by the tide.

Today,
my mother watches her son
enlist in the draft.

Eden Hitchcock lives and attends school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She enjoys reading and writing in her spare time, and has had both poetry and short stories published in various magazines.

Honorable Mentions of the Month
These are poems that stood out among the beautiful submissions we received in May 2026:
“Art Exhibition” by Lynn White
“Window and Wind” by Anatoly Loginov
~ Selected by Sharisa Aidukaitis

Editor’s Note

Emotional honesty is one thing I deeply respect in creative writing: when a writer does not try to impress, but instead focuses on conveying an idea naturally and sincerely. Eden demonstrates this skillfully in her poem; it is soft, gentle, and easy to read.
